Since 2019, I’ve talked to hundreds of people about breaking into data science. No matter how much hiring changes, the same two factors keep coming up: who refers you and what projects are on your resume.
Networking is important, but there’s only so much concrete advice anyone can give beyond reaching out to people and building relationships.
Projects are different. Over the years, I’ve collected more than 100 real projects that people told me helped them get callbacks, start interview conversations, and ultimately land jobs. This post is a collection of those projects - the ones that actually opened doors.
